While ordering dinner from almost any restaurant, without having to leave the comfort of our homes, is a convenience that we New Yorkers are quickly getting used to. App-based delivery services, that make it possible, may be putting our favorite restaurants out of business.
Recent complaints from restaurant owners, regarding fees and bad practices by Grubhub , led NYC Council members to warn Grubhub Inc. execs to change industry practices or face some of the first U.S. laws regulating fees they charge restaurants. Fearing a rise in storefront closures, Council Members feel that restaurant owners have found themselves caught in a business model that fails to add to their bottom line, eats at their profits, and could potentially force them to close their doors.
