NY Adopts New CDC Guidance on Mask Use/Social Distancing…What You Need To Know

Current guidance requires 6 feet of social distance and masks for everyone. As of May 19th NY will adopt CDC’s Guidance for Fully Vaccinated People, what does that really mean for food service businesses? Here’s the breakdown:

  • Are masks still required in restaurants?
    • According to the CDC fully vaccinated individuals do not need to wear masks,
    • Businesses can choose to follow CDC guidance
    • The Department of Health recommends that businesses require masks in indoor settings where vaccination status is unknown
    • Ultimately the choice is left to each individual business 
  • Are there social distancing requirements?
    • According to the CDC fully vaccinated individuals do not have to socially distance
    • Businesses can choose to follow CDC guidance
    • The Department of Health recommends that business require six feet of social distancing in indoor settings where vaccination status is unknown
    • Ultimately the choice is left to each individual business

Businesses also have the choice to assign part of the space to fully vaccinated people.
